Attended 2008 Spanish Grand Prix

30.04.2008

Marko Asmer attended his first Formula One Grand Prix as an official F1 driver, spending the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona from 24 to 27 April.

Travelling directly from the BMW Sauber F1 team test in Miramas, southern France, to take some car parts to the race team, Marko was invited to stay on and participate in press and sponsor activities with the team as well as sit in on the driver engineering meetings.

"It was really nice to spend a Grand Prix weekend with the team," Marko said.  "It's always pleasant to be in the Formula One paddock, meeting lots of people I know, and this time it was particularly great feeling to be a member of the BMW Sauber F1 team, a top contender in the Championship.  As a driver I can't pretend it isn't a little bit frustrating to be at a race without actually driving the car, but I have my job to do with the team and I am focused 100% on that.  My opportunity to race at this level will hopefully come in the future."

As well as various press interviews, Marko visited team sponsors in Paddock Club and an official Formula BMW Europe launch event with Nick Heidfeld, Christian Klien and Dr Mario Theissen.
